It's our first Christmas in our new home. So when last week's ice storm brought down a 22-foot bough from one of our white pines we jumped at our good fortune. The problem? This bough was heavy as hell - even after I would trim it down to 16-feet in arched glory. Our plastic Walmart tree stand was out. So, yesterday, Dec 20, 2008, we went to our local Waterloo garden center and bought this stand at 40% off its original price of $160 (i.e., ~$100). We were hoping to find a stand with a bit more design panache - but now this one's completely grown on us. It's functional but it's got a great festivus red finish. It holds A LOT of water. And the tri-pod design - versus a circular frame - adds to the versatility of placing the tree closer to the wall then you ever could with a similarly rated round tree stand. Speaking of ratings, we are definitely stressing the design parameters here with a 16' pine bough that arches out into the center of the room
